Celebrating 20 Years of  Service

To Our Community

Carl U. Eggleston Funeral Establishment of Farmville was started by the Eggleston Family on November 16, 1983. In 1983 we only occupied 2,278 square feet with only two rest-rooms, one viewing room, casket selection room, preparation room and one office, with parking for 20 cars. On November 16, 1983 the funeral service had no rolling stock.
We had to borrow a hearse to use for the first funeral service. Today the company owns ten vehicles, and a horse drawn hearse. Between November 16, 1983 and December 31, 1984, the Eggleston Funeral Establishment conducted only one funeral service, that was Carl's grandfather, George C. Eggleston, Sr. of Amelia, Virginia.
Today the establishment is competitive with other funeral homes in the area. The facility occupies 6,716 square feet, has seven restrooms—two with showers, three viewing rooms, two conference rooms, three offices, preparation room, casket selection room, community room with seating for 50 people, multi-purpose room, carriage/viewing room, chapel with seating for 175, with minister study with restroom, efficient apartment/office and 75 car parking lot.
Facilities are handicapped accessible of course.
Carl U. Eggleston became interested in serving local families as a funeral director and worked for the late E. B. Allen. He served his mortuary internship with the E. F. Mimms Funeral Home of Richmond. And he has AAS Degree from John Tyier Community College majoring in Mortuary Science.
He worked for the Oliver Funeral Home of Crewe, Virginia; Marshall Funeral Home of Culpeper, Virginia; the Jeffress Funeral Home of Charlotte Court House, Virginia; and managed the Robert Mealy Funeral Home for three years.
Carl was inspired by such morticians as E. B. Allen, Mark Oliver, Edward F. Mimms, Sr., Edward F. Mimms, Jr., Bernard F. Mimms, Robert Mealy, Bennett Jeffress, and classmates Stanley Jeffress, Jr., and Carl B. Hutcherson, Jr.
